New Media in foreign language classes - Free tasks

The five free tasks that you can find here belong to my new media class. Together with the obligatory tasks that you can open in the new media drop down list, these five tasks are part of the assessment for my new media class. For the five free tasks, I had a relatively free choice of topic. But because this portfolio is supposed to mirror my learning process, I decided to include some of the topics we dealt with in class.
The first free task is called “Bubbl.us and X-Mind – Two brainstorming tools”. I got to know the tool X-Mind when we talked about the “digitale Schultasche”. The program X-Mind is part of the “digitale Schultasche”, and as the title of the first task suggests, it can be used for brainstorming purposes. The second tool is called bubbl.us, and I got to know it in my academic writing class. In the essay, I tried to describe and compare the two different tools.
The second task is about the JIM-Study we were introduced to in our new media class. This study is about the media usage of young people. In the essay for the second task, the most important findings of the study and their implications for teaching will be presented.
The third task is called “E-Portfolios in school”. In my new media class I got to know the usage of e-portfolios both as a means of presenting and documenting one`s learning process as well as a means of assessment. As I really like the method, I decided to include a task about e-portfolios in my own portfolio.
The fourth task is about standards in media competence and computer literacy. During my new media class, I learned that media competence and computer literacy are included in the Hessian curriculum for teaching English. Unfortunately, the curriculum does not define any concrete competences the pupils should acquire. That is the reason why we created our own lists of competences in class. The lists we came up with serve as the basis for this essay.
The last task is now called “Data protection on the internet”. Today`s pupils increasingly use the computer and the internet during their free time as well as for school purposes. If we want to teach how the internet can be used in a responsible and sensible way, the issue of data protection should not be overlooked. In this task, I present some of the most important aspects about data protection the pupils should be familiar with. In addition, I also included a worksheet about data protection that could be used at school.
All in all, I hope that you enjoy reading my free tasks, too. Probably you can get some inspiration for your own teaching.
